With the success of a neighbourhood retrofit pilot that saw 11 Vernon homes switch to electric heat pumps and hot water tanks, and generate the electricity to run them with solar panels—HomeZero Collective Society has announced the start of a community engagement phase that aims to bring clean energy retrofits to 500 Vernon homes throughout the city over the next three years.

Eleven homes in the North Okanagan are being retrofitted to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. The CBC's Megan Turcato paid them a visit. 

Homeowners interested in learning more and being considered for the next phase can attend online info sessions and open houses.

A unique applied research project is underway with the launch of an important community initiative aimed at promoting sustainability in Vernon.

Vernon, British Columbia – By helping Canadians upgrade their homes to be more energy-efficient, the Government of Canada, and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) are helping tackle climate change, create good jobs and reduce monthly bills. 

A pilot project will see up to 15 homes in Vernon retrofitted with energy-saving upgrades – and more could be on the way.

VERNON, BC—HomeZero Collective announced today that it’s looking for up to 15 homeowners in East Hill and the Foothills to be among the first to access clean energy retrofit funding and support—and demonstrate the financial and environmental benefits of making the switch on a neighbourhood scale.

Up to 15 residents in the Foothills and East Hill could receive a $10,000-$30,000 subsidy, financing.
